Belief, Magic, and Faith

Tis the season of less sunlight but lots of strung up twinkling lights to make up for it.  I love this time of year for all the lights and the feeling of something special.  I watched a classically cheesy Christmas movie the other night about a grown man who believes in Santa – I loved it.

I loved it because it dealt with Faith, Magic, and Believing in the thing you can’t see but you can feel. This is pretty much the world I live in every minute of every day. My practice and work in the Shamanic Healing Arts realm is a world of believing in the things you can’t see with the naked eye – although sometimes you actually can when you open yourself up and cultivate the ability to see into the mystical realms.  And believing in the thing you can’t necessarily prove or see is the very thing that makes it more available to be experienced in the tangible realms.

Belief – it's a funny thing.  How it works - what you believe to be true becomes your reality and this is what you then project and attract into your life - in order to prove the belief true.  This can be an amazingly positive force when we have belief systems that are healthy and serve us on our path.  And this can be utterly frustrating and sometimes destructive when we have negative belief systems that keep us in a pattern or loop that does not serve our highest good. One of the ways to begin to see what kinds of beliefs we are holding is to sit down and write 3 or 4 things that are going well in your life.  As you look at this list ask the question “what do I believe to be true about myself in order to have created this in my life?”. Trust the first couple things that come up and don’t overanalyze them. Then write a short list of what is not working so well in your life and ask the same question “what do I believe to be true about myself in order to have created this in my life?”.  This is one way to flush up those deeper limiting beliefs both positive and negative.  The next step is beginning to release the old negative belief and come into a new engagement with yourself by using the positive belief you found when looking at the things going well in your life. We want to focus on that belief instead of the negative.  Easier said than done sometimes – but it is absolutely possible. (**** we here at Shamanic Twist are here to help and assist with this as it can be tricky sometimes)

And this brings me to Magic. The magic of being a conscious co-creator is the act of seeing and bringing our awareness to something, which is the very act that begins to shift and change our circumstances. What we see we activate! It is truly a magical kind of system in the land of energetics. Once we witness or see something – we can then bring our awareness to it and allow for things to be different or to bring greater expression to what is. Once we see that we hold a positive belief system about ourselves with the evidence of lived experience – as exemplified in your list of things working well and the belief about yourself that created those things – then we can consciously choose to see that core aspect of ourselves more often, bringing a different feedback loop into our lives – one that reflects this positive belief. We live in a malleable universe.  Our world gets to be co-created, shaped, molded by us – with the help of our highest essential self and that which exists even beyond. That which we can not teach nor explain, but that which we can make a lived experience with - this is the wisdom of the sage. And in that willingness to live into the unknown and the magic, we bring a very different lived experience into form. Live into the magic of the positive or the highest expression – it will begin to shift and release the grip of the less positive or negative that we have carried about ourselves on the subconscious levels.

Faith – the secret ingredient that makes the other two far more potent when we add it to the mix.  What is faith? It is a little different than belief – it can kind of feel similar but when we really get into it, faith is that invisible thing that keeps us believing in something. Faith is the current that carries us and our beliefs into inspired action and courageously dreaming into what is possible. We can have all kinds of beliefs about what is possible but if we don’t couple it with faith, it doesn’t have the same juice to ignite the magic that brings our dreams and aspirations into manifested form. This is both internal and external. Internal – the ways we want to feel, be, act, experience ourselves. External – what we create and bring into form, our passions, hobbies, relationships, experiences. I went through a time in my life where I questioned some of my deepest beliefs that I thought were solid – and I was stunned that I was even questioning what I had long believed to be my absolute truth. And one night as I stood outside in December on a very cold, but clear crisp night looking up at the stars – feeling so afraid that I was questioning my belief in divine orchestration, my belief in the soul’s ability to continue on and still know itself enough to continue to create experiences that can be witnessed and felt by those still in form, I felt this deep constriction on the inside.  I felt myself begin to flounder, realizing I could be on the brink of losing myself to an abyss that I wasn’t sure I would be able to get out of. And then I felt this thing begin to spread through my body and my energetic field, and realized it was faith. I heard a voice that felt simultaneously like it came from within and without, prompting me to continue to have faith in what I believe, faith in what I know to be true through many years of lived experience.  It came with the realization that I would miss out on the magic of what was possible if I stopped believing in what some might call the impossible.  I have had so many amazing experiences that have even blown my mind after 20+ years of walking a path that is steeped in the invisible realms of Belief, Magic, and Faith.

I wish you all a beautiful season of twinkling lights and a whole lot of Magic, Faith and Belief in all that is possible and impossible!

PS – If you want a good Holiday Movie I suggest I Believe in Santa on Netfix

****warning you have to know you are about to embark on classic cheesy holiday fare – but one that will possibly provoke some deeper thought and expansion in the heart!
